The programs are available on disk call the Institute office and I will get a copy to you.
The first program is “Step by Step”, it does all the arithmetic steps needed to do the work done with the Applied Math class. Read the REMark statements and you will see what is going on.
The second program, “HISTOGRAM” makes a histogram using X’s as tallies. The output will appear on the screen, but also may be printed out so as to share more examples with students than can be generated in one class period. This program could be used in conjunction with the mean and standard deviation activity.
The third program, “HOW MANY CARDS IN A DECK”, simulates the capture-recapture experiment with a deck of cards. One may have as many as 16 catches of as many as 52 cards. The program will make all comparisons for repeats and calculate the maximum likelihood estimate. If there are no repeats the program avoids division by zero and prints: “NO VALUE”.
