There are three cultures on which this research is based: (l) European American, (2) African American, (3) Spanish American. The objective of this unit is to have students read, write and comprehend poems, and understand the social background of poets. In English, it will be used to help the students recognize the punctuation techniques of poetry; in reading, it will be used to help students appreciate the various cultural perspective of poets; in writing, it will be used to encourage students to experience writing poetry.
