In this curriculum unit, “Slavery: The American Way,” four major topics may be found: The History and Development of Slavery, The Slave Trade, the White Master and the Slave Revolt, The Slave Culture and its Impact to American Literature. These topics provide the necessary background information for the teacher’s own development of lesson activities other than the ones included in the unit. There are no limitations to what the teacher can do if he or she uses the reference materials indicated in the appendix and bibliographies.
