Anterior: More forward or near the head. Ex. The knee cap is on the anterior of the body
Distal: Away from a given point. Ex. The hand is distal from the shoulder joint.
Inferior: Below a specified point. Ex. The nose is inferior to the eyes.
Lateral: Towards the side. Ex. The ribs are lateral to the sternum.
Medial: In the middle. Ex. The sternum is medial to the clavicles.
Posterior: Further back or towards the rear. Ex. The occipital lobe is posterior to the temporal lobe.
Proximal: Close to a given point. Ex. The femoral head is proximal to the pelvic girdle.
Superior: Above a given point. Ex. The nose is superior to the lips.
