The classroom activities are suggestions that can be altered to fit classroom needs and use higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy.17 The instructional supports referred to in the Strategies section of this unit are further detailed here. The activities are designed to be used during reading and/or writing workshops or implemented into any classroom schedule. These activities can last the duration or be completed in parts according to any classroom schedule, (for the purposes of this unit, the work of three African American women poets are used as works cited, but others can be added onto this lesson which can be referred to in the resources referenced in the Rationale section of this unit). The activities are structured for weekly implementation but can be folded into a larger, longer session if needed. This unit will be referenced throughout Women’s History in March and implemented in full during Poetry Month in April, during the Reading and Writing Workshop.
