This unit is designed to help third-grade students understand the Earth’s systems and how weather and climate impact different regions of the world. More specifically, students will use research skills, along with tracking their own data on weather in their neighborhoods, to find out if there are any similarities or difference that corelate to the season or region in which they live. Within this unit, students will explore the beauty of writing about nature while being outside in nature both at home and at school. This will allow students to take a moment to notice nature around them. In addition, students will be able to be conscious about the effects weather has on a community and the change in different weather patterns. Students will also have the opportunity to explore different severe weather events that have an effect on their own communities or other regions, and how severe weather can impact animal species. This unit will allow students to become more invested in the study of weather and climate because they will be experiencing it daily.
