The Worthington Hooker School 7th grade focus group students will be asked some essential questions throughout the unit of study:
- What is your pre-existing knowledge of T.E.A.M. as an acronym, pre-existing knowledge on Intelligence, Brains, Sorting, and Classifying?
- What role does persistence or grit play in both research, revising, refining, designing, developing, creating work and in life?
- How does collaboratively reflecting on a topic or an artwork help us experience it more completely and deeply?
- How does collaboration and brainstorming differing perspectives or subject areas expand the thinking and creative design process?
- What conditions, attitudes, and behaviors support creativity and innovative thinking?
- How does engaging in creating art enrich people's lives?
- How does making art attune people to their surroundings, current events, or historical events?
- How does learning about art (lines, shape, and colors) impact how we perceive the world moving forward?
The answers to these essential questions will be discussed both during the mini TEDx talk presentations. Grade 7 will think for themselves, work independently, and can utilize collaborative support as possible. Teacher's google slideshow will kick off unit and hopefully inspire students. Students will be allotted time for peer discourse and student collaborations that will hopefully generate ideas for their own selected direction.
After this brief sharing I will then place link inside google classroom or email the link to the class so the students have access to teacher example. Inside the google classroom students will be able to click the link to navigate teacher created google slideshow. Students can explore safe organized internet through google slideshow to help them pick a desired topic.
S.T.E.A.M. Study in Grades 5-8
While grade 7 is my focus group, 5-8 age group is always curious to see what other groups are creating. The students in this age group will gain skills socially and emotionally as well as gain skills in peer collaborations when listening to a few mini TEDx talk google slideshows.
S.T.E.A.M. Study Grades 9-12
For high school students, this S.T.E.A.M. unit of study would make a great fall opening assignment. Students can begin their school year by being immersed in a S.T.E.A.M. unit of study. Weaving art with other connections. Beginning the school year with having students work independently to select the direction of their choosing will allow the teacher to see the students academic strengths and possible learning styles. Students entering the fall classroom are eager to begin and show their teacher their personal best. Students have had time in the summer to rest and recover. This unit will be a great indicator for where the students are in their own research skills, finding math statistic skills, computer technology skills, art fine motor skills, focus skills, and more. This unit would make a great opening learning opportunity for students in grades 9-12 because it is a great way for teachers to gain learning about their new class makeup of students. Teachers can take all the focused group plans and modify them accordingly.
