Give FeedbackUnit Objectives
The primary objective of this unit is to provide students with an understanding of the cultural richness and diverse background of Puerto Rican people. This will help students to achieve mutual respect and understanding of how Puerto Ricans express themselves in a culture which through the years became vital and unique. This unit will provide the classroom teacher with information, materials, resources and activities that reflect the influence of different ethnic and racial groups of Puerto Rican heritage and culture. This is exemplified well in the typical Puerto Rican musical instruments, folkloric songs, dances, art and festivals which are a fusion of Indian, Spanish and African elements. The design of this unit will help teachers develop meaningful activities giving students a greater understanding of culminating activities which celebrate specific Puerto Rican traditions and holidays.
