OBJECTIVE:
Students will critically analyze the Declaration of Independence and recognize the inequities that existed upon the documents inception, during the 17th, 18th, l9th and 20th centuries.
Students will examine the Constitution of the United States and become familiar with their guarantee to basic human rights.
Students will understand why amendments to the Constitution were necessary.
STRATEGIES:
Teacher will ask students if they believe that all men are created equal.
Students will break into small groups for discussion of the question and must collectively come up with one example from the 17th, l8th, l9th, and 20th centuries which questions the Constitution’s application.
Students will reconvene as a class and share group responses.
Teacher will ask students to list their basic rights
