Wilbur Cross High School is about 2,000 students strong. It is located in New Haven, CT. The mathematics courses, offered to these inner city school students, begin with Algebra I and three years of mathematics is needed in order to graduate. The student body, in general, is preoccupied with electronics such cell phones, i-pods, and various game units. School is boring because there are no games in mathematics classes. But, when the teacher becomes an entertainer and enlivens the classroom with variety as overhead, white board, film, slides, trips to the computer room, quiz games, and mixes the day to make time pass, the student is more interested.
